Intersectional Black Feminism in Greater Newark from a Working Class perspective

Ten Years of Black Feminism, DIY, & Writing. Founded in 2014

The Blk Grrrl is a space for Black Feminism from a working class perspective. Founded in 2014 we noticed there was a lack of feminist work doing class analysis. Inspired by the Combahee River Collective, DIY, Riot Grrrl, and Lucy Parsons, we decided to create a space that addressed the concerns of working class Black women, grrrls, and nonbinary people.

The Combahee River Collective Statement 1977
Combahee River Collective

Our goal is to document and empower the women, grrrl, and nonbinary experience of people who are members of the working class African diaspora who are descendent of Africans brought to the Southern United States before the turn of the 20th century.

Another goal is to connect Blk Grrrl struggles to struggles that are happening among the working class across cultures and nations.
